In his family, a passion for sailing was passed down from generation to generation. Mikołaj’s grandfather sailed recreationally, while his father participated in regattas. Mikołaj started his adventure with sailing in 2004, at the age of 12, when his father took him on a sailboat for the first time. In the same year, he joined the sailing club Polish Yacht Club Gdynia.
In 2004-2007 he sailed in the Optimist class. At the age of 13, he moved to group B, in which in 2005 he took part in his first official regatta on the lake in Charzykowy. Shortly afterward he moved to group A. At the age of 15, he changed a club to City Sailing Club Arka Gdynia and switched to Laser class.
With the start of his studies, he parted with sailing, but it soon turned out that it was not for long. In the first semester of studies, in 2011 he joined the Sailing Section of the Gdansk University of Technology, which he represented for 5 years at the academic and match regattas and in the Polish Sailing League. During training and match regattas in Rybnik in 2015, he met Piotr Harasimowicz and the HRM Racing Team.
In the meantime, he was sailing on a 10-meter coal yacht Vihuela in the Ustecki Sailing Club. After graduating in 2016, he continued to compete in the Polish Sailing League, representing the Jeziorak Yacht Club. He was also a crew member of the Yachts and Yachting Sailing Team. At the beginning of the 2019 season, he joined the crew of Scamp 27 and the HRM Racing Team.
